Professor Bracewell is not all he appears to be. Heralded by Churchill as a Genius who invented the Ironsides, he turns out to be nothing more than a puppet of the Daleks; created by them to lure the doctor into a trap which would unless a bigger, brighter, more power race of daleks than ever [...]

Hawthorne was another character to feature on board the Starship UK (along with Peter the Winder). In charge of the Government and answering only to Queen he was responsible for the grotesque smilers and turning the starship into a police state as he directed the torturing of the star whale.

The winders were Starship UKs very own police force and they were actually a hybrid form of Human and Smiler. Half man / half plastic so to speak.
